Welcome. I’m a writer and researcher covering nature and culture.
I enjoy crafting reportage with strong characters that reveal connections to place, and the complexities and contradictions of being human. My work often covers how communities and wildlife adapt to climate change, and how politics and culture influence science. I’ve reported on mining, wildfires, migration, public health, public transit, and conservation of threatened species from the U.S., Thailand, Rwanda, India, and South Africa.
You’ll find my work in Canada’s National Observer, CBC News, Courrier International, Hakai Magazine, In These Times, PBS, Mongabay, Pacific Standard, Popular Science, Sapiens Magazine, Sierra Magazine, The Tyee, and others. My reporting has been supported by The Pulitzer Center and CivicStory.
I hold a graduate degree in political ecology and climate change from the Yale School of the Environment, and a master’s in international law and human rights from New York University. I am a member of the National Writers Union and The Uproot Project.
